EXAMPLES - MEASURING CHANGE
WITH MORE THAN TWO GROUPS AND ONE BETWEEN GROUP FACTOR

EXAMPLE

You want to measure change in three groups of people each receiving a different therapy. You measure their symptoms at time one (start of therapy) and time two (end of therapy) using a standardised scale.

The between group factor is therapy type. It may also be called the INDEPENDENT VARIABLE. Your measure of symptoms on the scale is the DEPENDENT VARIABLE.

There is also one WITHIN GROUP FACTOR here - time. It is also an INDEPENDENT VARIABLE.
